Why 2016 will be David Gravell’s biggest year yet…

Even those who are already killing it in this relentless, yet rewarding industry might surprise you and go beyond what you dared to expect. Please meet David Gravell, one of the most talented artists to have broken onto the Trance scene in the past few years. The Dutchman was discovered by DJ and producer duo W&W in 2013, signed with Armada Music at the start of 2014, and has been killing it ever since. As he shows no signs of slowing down, this is why 2016 will be David Gravell’s biggest year yet…

1. He doesn’t settle for one IDMA nomination if he can get two…
David Gravell landed two IDMA nominations this year: Best Break-Through DJ and Best Trance DJ. There are few achievements that could make a year start off even better, other than maybe getting three (or more) nominations. There’s more to come from this musical genius and we’ll be there to report on it every step along the way.

2. He can turn near-forgotten Trance classics into present-day club destroyers…
Mr. Gravell tried his hand at classics many believe should remain untouched, much like sailing full steam into treacherous waters. But we know David; if anyone could’ve pulled it off, it was him. And so it ensued. The Armada Captivating hotshot infused momentous tunes such as Dash Berlin’s ‘Man On The Run’ and Veracocha’s ‘Carte Blanche’ with his own trademark style and made them even more timeless. We hope to see a lot more of that in the near future.

3. He’s good with the ladies and kind enough to share his knowledge…
Somewhere around Valentine’s Day this year, we asked David Gravell what wisdom he could impart on those seeking that one true love. Here’s what he had to say:

“As a DJ or producer, you get a lot of attention from the opposite sex, though it often has nothing to do with your music. If I had accepted all of the proposals I got in the past years, my divorce lawyer would be filthy rich, haha. Don’t get me wrong, I love all the attention; it gives me a massive energy boost every time I am on stage. I always try to connect with the audience personally and it’s a pleasure to talk in person with my fans. But sorry ladies, I don’t do marriages on the spot. A small tip for all the non-taken ones: Be yourself. Everyone else is already taken.”

4. He is the musical equivalent of Pablo Picasso…
From 16-bar melodies to squared synths, the various shapes of music hold no secrets for the talented Dutchman. Add the mosaic-like facial features in the picture below and David is undisputedly on par with this generation’s painters and sculptures. The musical equivalent, that is.

5. He is the master of selfies…

6. Playing the air-guitar is another one of his sought-after skills as an artist…

7. He got to remix one of the biggest ASOT anthems to date, made by Armin van Buuren himself…
You know you’ve made waves when you get supported by one of the biggest DJs in the world, let alone if that means getting to remix one of the biggest A State Of Trance anthems ever made at the same time. David got to do just that and it only added to the momentum he had already generated beforehand. That’s not all though. Another monumental David Gravell remix for a big Armada artist looms on the horizon! Isn’t that something to look out for?

8. He owns a pet monkey named ‘Baasklapper’…
Meet ‘Baasklapper’. Baasklapper is David’s pet monkey.  ‘Nuff said… It’s just awesome to have a pet monkey.
P.S. You’d have to ask David himself how the name translates to your own language. We’re at a loss ourselves.

9. He knows how to make the crowd go crazy…
It could be his energetic on-stage presence, his devastating signature sound, or whichever of his unique traits we have not yet mentioned. But the fact is that David Gravell rocks the stage whenever he’s on it. You might have seen him perform at various Armada Nights, the A State Of Trance 700 Celebration Weekend in Sydney, A State Of Trance Festival Utrecht 2016, or at festivals such as Ultra Music Festival, Creamfields, Electronic Family, and Colourfest. Wherever he ventures, he makes sure people notice.

10. We’re quite fond of him ourselves…!
He’s been a part of the Armada family since early 2013 and we love him as one of our own. We still cannot get enough of his knack for creating songs that lift our spirits and take our breaths. We couldn’t have asked for more. Thanks for being there with us, David! Here’s to making 2016 your best year yet!
