The Best Tracks of 2016 – Selected by Armada Music’s A&R team

The end of 2016 is almost upon us and the annual arguments have flared up once again. What tracks were the best of the year and which of those really did leave a long-lasting impression? Luckily, our A&R team offered some pretty solid suggestions. You might not agree with all of them, but at least you’ll have a full range of awesome tunes to check out! Here are the best tracks of 2016, selected by Armada Music’s A&R team.

Armin van Buuren vs Human Resource – Dominator [Nominated by Jeroen te Rehorst]
One of the many highlights in 2016 for me was Miami and Armin’s sunset performance at the main stage of Ultra Music Festival. I stood front of house when he opened his set with this version of Human Resource – ‘Dominator’!

Michael Woods – Take My Love [Nominated by Jeroen te Rehorst]
We had an amazing time that week with the team in Miami and pestered Uber drivers to play Michael Wood’s new release while cruising between south beach and downtown. Luckily, they appreciated the song and turned up the volume!

Harry Romero feat. Robert Owens – Back (Kölsch Remix) [Nominated by Jeroen te Rehorst]
In April 2016, we launched a new concept called ‘Armada Invites’, a livestream event from our very own in-office Club. Over the year, we’ve had the likes of Armin van Buuren, Sunnery James & Ryan Marciano, Lost Frequencies, NERVO, Mike Hawkins, Goldfish, Dirtcaps and more play at ‘Armada Invites’. Erick Morillo did the kickoff to celebrate the fresh collaboration between Armada Music and Subliminal Records and I was very happy to see one of my favorite tracks get re-released on Subliminal with an amazing remix from Kölsch!

Porter Robinson & Madeon – Shelter [Nominated by Jeroen te Rehorst]
In the fall of 2016, we opened our new office in New York City! While celebrating this landmark at Electric Zoo, I saw my first Porter Robinson live show, which I found really impressive. It’s such a tight production both musically and visually, and ‘Shelter’ was definitely one of the highlights!

Borgore feat. Juicy J – Magic Trick [Nominated by Jeroen te Rehorst]
Besides Porter Robinson’s live performance at Electric Zoo, I saw my first Borgore show as well! That was REALLY something. What can I say… the place went off (as well as girl’s tops)!

Super8 & Tab – Mega [Nominated by Joël de Vriend]
Hearing this being dropped by Armin van Buuren at the world’s biggest main stages and seeing the crowds’ response was MEGA! The fact that everyone thought it was an Armin van Buuren record only served as the cherry on top!

Sultan + Shepard – Bring Me Back (Guilty Pleasure Remix) [Nominated by Joël de Vriend]
Summer vibes, summer vibes, summer vibes. Did I mention summer vibes?

Codeko feat. RAPHAELLA – Walking With Lions (Official Electric Zoo Anthem) [Nominated by Joël de Vriend]
It was great to be able to work with such a talented artist on the anthem of such a well-respected festival!

Drianu – Netflix And Chill [Nominated by Joël de Vriend]
Every internet hype needs a song! Drianu gave us the perfect record to get that ‘Netflix And Chill’ party started, a tribute to all of the couch warmers, binge-watchers and lovers!

Dirtcaps feat. Eleni Drake – Foreign Tongues [Nominated by Joël de Vriend]
‘Foreign Tongues’ marked the start of an amazing collaboration between us, Dirtcaps and the KLASH label! This song was premiered by Diplo in Diplo & Friends and a sterling example of the multifarious sound of Dirtcaps!

Mokita X CADE – Monopoly [Nominated by Onno van Kemenade]
From the first time I heard this beauty till now, it has gathered 7.5 million streams on Spotify alone, which is such a timeless record for me. ‘Monopoly’ is without a doubt my most-played tune on Spotify this year!

Manse feat. Emily Harder – All Around [Nominated by Onno van Kemenade]
Featured in the Top 50 of best performing 2016 records from the ElectroNOW Spotify playlist, this track will remain fresh for years to come. It passed the mark of 3 million streams in the blink of an eye.

Galavant – Hey Mama [Nominated by Onno van Kemenade]
Brilliant tune from Swedish act Galavant. This one makes you want to party all night long!

Lush & Simon feat. KiFi and BullySongs – Warriors [Nominated by Onno van Kemenade]
Lush & Simon always deliver and this tune is no exception. We are Warriors!

Chicola – Childhood [Nominated by Onno van Kemenade]
I first heard this amazing production from Chicola in a live set from Dixon, where it was one of the highlights of his set. This is definitely one of the best tracks of 2016 for me.
